Policies of the GUARDIAN PROGRAM
Welcome to the Guardian Program. Pet parents are responsible for routine veterinary care and wellness of the puppy. This means annual vaccines, grooming, monthly heartworm prevention, deworming, training, regular exercise and socialization, and foods, supplements, and treats from Nutrition For Paws. The Guardian is responsible for any maintenance or needed medical care, just as would be expected of any other responsible pet parent.
Guardians are NOT responsible for any expenses related to breeding. Those are the sole responsibility of Spur Strap Mini Aussies.
The benefits of this programs are you get the very best that Spur Strap Mini Aussies has to offer. Breeding stock is chosen based on the best qualities that are outlined in our breed standard. Another wonderful benefit is that your dog will be completely health tested by 24 months of age at no cost to you!
You get to enjoy the excitement of being a part of our breeding program, and will see the offspring of your very own dog placed with families across the country ~ bringing others the same joy and happiness that you have experienced.
To be considered for the Guardian Program, we ask that you live within 200 miles of our home in Hermiston, Oregon. It is necessary that you have physical fencing to provide a safe and secure environment for your puppy, own your own home, and have a schedule that will allow your dog not be left alone for extended periods of time. Dogs should never be left outside in a kennel for long periods. You must have reliable transportation, and a willingness to bring your dog to us when needed for breeding purposes.
Many of our dogs/pups available for our Guardian Program will be males. Occasionally we will have a female available as well!

When a female Guardian dog is in heat, you are encouraged to contact us immediately. At this time, we will need access to her for any necessary breeding related appointments. Once she has been bred, she will remain with you until one week before her due date. Your dog will come back to stay at Spur Strap until the birth of her litter, and can return once her pups are fully weaned at approximately 6 weeks of age. You are welcome and encouraged to visit with scheduled appointments while your dog is at Spur Strap. Each dog is individually assessed before determining how many litters she will have. Most of our breeding dogs will have between 1-3 litters to preserve the genetics. The health and well being of our breeding dogs is a priority. Females are first bred at 2 years of age.
Once we receive all of the results from its health testing, we are then able to assess whether or not it will enter our breeding program. If for any reason we decide not to breed the puppy placed with you (this is a decision solely made by Spur Strap) you will receive written permission to spay/neuter your companion.
